vsts - TFS online error TF50316 when connection to server -

project 2010, "converted" 2013. uploaded tfs online. receive following error when attempting pull down via source control explorer or when attempting add new items source control when opened locally:

i'm stumped. suggestions?

in particular instance, turns out workspace corrupted. deleting workspace, creating new local copy of repo, connecting online repo via new workspace corrected problem. creating new workspace linking original copy of local repo/code did not exhibit same problem.
